UF Health is opening a specialty hospital in Gainesville focused on cardiac care. The first floor of the UF Health Heart & Vascular Hospital, which will open in December just to the east of the UF Health Shands Cancer Hospital, will have 20 heart and vascular exam rooms and a heart station. The second floor includes five heart-and-vascular general operating rooms and three heart-and-vascular hybrid operating rooms with flexible diagnostic and surgical setups. Hospital executives say such hybrid ORs will ensure that patients with complex conditions no longer have to be moved from one area to another in the middle of surgeries.
The facility also will include 120 private patient rooms — 48 for medicine and surgical care patients and 72 for intensivecare unit patients.
The heart hospital was built alongside a new neuromedicine hospital, which will also open in December and includes hybrid ORs. The projects have a combined budget of $415 million.
