Empowering patients, enabling connectivity, enhancing efficiencies and enriching the science of healthcare are the cornerstones of The Quantum Group’s platform to help drive federally mandated reform of the nation’s largest industry — healthcare.
Physicians are asking for practical, affordable ways to integrate digitized healthcare technologies into their practices and are further fueled by a nationwide call for more streamlined healthcare management. Fewer than 20% of U.S. physicians to date are taking advantage of electronics to manage their patients’ health records.
PWeR™ (Personal Wellness electronic Record™), the Quantum healthcare information technology platform, provides physicians with the connectivity required to facilitate communication between themselves and their patients, specialist peers, facilities, hospitals and other care providers. At the same time, PWeR enables comprehensive, quality patient care and enhances efficiencies industry-wide.
A physician-driven transformation
“We believe that healthcare transformation begins with the physician,” says Pete Martinez, Quantum senior vice president and chief technology & innovations officer. “Physicians are charged with understanding a patient’s overall health and well-being, and yet we often require them to ‘fly blind’ without access to all of the real-time information gathered by other care providers. Consequently, no one has the 360-degree view of the patient’s overall health, and ultimately it’s the patient who pays the price in the form of lower quality care and wasted resources.”
In a strategic move, Quantum has partnered with IBM to drive the IBM Medical Home solution Pc3 (Patient Centered Collaborative Care) using PWeR. Together, Pc3 and PWeR provide physicians with a state-of-the-art process for electronic health records (EHR) integration, management, analysis and communication across the healthcare ecosystem. In addition, the EHR-enabled primary care practices that result will meet President Obama’s vision of an information-based, connected healthcare system and may allow physicians to receive associated federal stimulus dollars.
Quantum President and CEO Noel J. Guillama adds, “In response to the low EHR adoption rate by U.S. physicians, we have decided to fully subsidize the EHR module of PWeR to our affiliated primary care physicians in the state of Florida who meet certain Medicare Advantage membership criteria. We believe that PWeR will improve the quality of patient care and will drive greater efficiencies and cost reductions that will ultimately create a significant return on investment.”
Complexity meets simplicity
Hosted by IBM, PWeR is a HIPAA-compliant, intelligent healthcare information platform for medical records that permits interactive use, thus making the previously complicated process of health records management simpler. With PWeR, medical records “follow” the patient, so every healthcare provider who sees a particular patient has ready access to all the information needed to formulate an appropriate diagnosis and treatment plan. Providers can see a patient’s entire medical record at a glance; in turn, patients can easily look back over physician instructions and track their own wellness progress.
Hospitals can use PWeR, too. Whether in critical situations or in providing day-to-day treatment to PWeR patients, hospitals can have ready access to full medical histories and make educated treatment decisions based on accurate and timely data.
