Tripp Scott’s Politics and Sunshine speaker series began in 2012 when the wide-open field of presidential candidates needed to position themselves in the pivotal Florida market. Since then, it has become a must-stop on the statewide and national campaign circuit.
This event is not a fundraiser. It’s an opportunity to discuss issues important to area leaders and business owners. Led by firm CEO Ed Pozzuoli, who for over two decades has been active in local and state politics and is a leader in the Broward County Republican Party, the series helps leaders address key issues and connect leaders with an important constituency.
In this brief Q&A, Pozzouli discusses how Politics and Sunshine continues to draw leading voices to the region.
Who are some of the individuals who have spoken at Politics and Sunshine, and especially those whose positions and stature have grown since?
Pozzuoli: It feels like almost everyone who’s spoken at Politics and Sunshine is now a state or national leader or is in the Trump Administration. We’ve had Sen. Marco Rubio, Sen. Rick Scott, Gov. Ron Desantis, and Congressman Mike Waltz, in addition to major voices like former U.S. Representative Tulsi Gabbard, former U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Dr. Ben Carson, former U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos, Donald Trump Jr., Pete Hegseth and Brian Kilmeade.
How did the firm convince these people to place South Florida on their speaking circuit, especially since this event has never been a fundraiser?
Pozzuoli: Tripp Scott has always had a solid footing in government affairs and I and others here have been front and center in Florida Republican politics. Jim Scott, who is now our Chairman Emeritus, is the former Florida Senate President. And the firm was involved in the Bush v. Gore battle in 2000. More than that, it’s the “Free State of Florida,” where the conservative blueprint is successfully in practice.
How has the series explored issues important to businesses and individuals?
Pozzuoli: Tripp Scott has been in the middle of key issues for decades and there isn’t a topic we don’t touch. With each election cycle, our business clients and the community we call home see new challenges arise locally and globally. For example, we have helped build Charter Schools USA into the nation’s largest charter school management company. From school choice and the economy to America’s relationship with China and Israel, we have a direct line to leaders guiding policy around these important topics.
How has the series elevated the firm’s stature and get its clients’ voices heard by in the halls of government?
Pozzuoli: The speaker series continues to further our brand and leadership as key contributors to major issues, especially education and the Florida economy. That’s a platform we’re committed to building upon.
