Entrepreneur Jason Pereira is a chef wearing many hats. He’s a personal and private chef and caterer. He’s active in his family’s hospitality business, based in his native St. Kitts in the Caribbean. He mentors chefs on the business side of their passion. He’s busy drumming up sponsors for his regional Emmy-award-winning public television show, Dock & Dine, in which he visits waterside eateries in Southeast Florida by boat to meet restaurant owners and chefs to prepare and share a meal.
What the Delray Beach resident brings to all the endeavors, aside from his passion for food, are the business tenets gleaned from his MBA from Florida Atlantic University. He joined the Professional MBA International Business program in 2016 after first graduating from FAU with an international business bachelor’s, then working with some high-profile chefs and graduating from the Culinary Institute of America in New York.
Looking back on his MBA, Pereira likens it to chef training. “The perspective I saw was being exposed to a number of different business principles, and whatever sticks and resonates with you, you can apply to any business venture going forward,” Pereira says. “That was to me the most valuable aspect of it — the tool set that was acquired from that experience.
