E-Commerce -- Fort Lauderdale-based ProxyMed, an e-health services company, has tapped Michael K. Hoover to be chairman and CEO. Hoover, 44, was most recently president and director of Healtheon Corp., an Atlanta-based e-health services company. Hoover replaces Harold Blue, who will serve as vice chairman.
Research -- Marie Powell Sullivan has been named chairwoman of Tampa Bay Research Institute, a biomedical research organization. Sullivan was TBRI's development cabinet chairwoman for the past two years. She is also owner of Orlando-based Marie Powell and Associates Realty. Sullivan replaces Andrew Hines, former CEO of Florida Power, who retired after serving as chairman for 10 years.
Restaurants -- Ronald N. Magruder is the new CEO of Tampa-based Hops Restaurant Bar and Brewery. Magruder replaces Tom Schelldorf, Hops' co-founder, who left in April after a failed attempt to buy the chain from its parent, Madison, Ga.-based Avado Brands. Magruder was most recently president and COO of Lebanon, Tenn.-based Cracker Barrel Old Country Store.
Retail -- Robin Sanderford has been appointed president of the southeast division of Little Rock, Ark.-based Dillard's. Sanderford, 53, will be based in St. Petersburg and replaces David Doub, who was promoted to president of Dillard's new Home Division. Sanderford was most recently president of Dillard's Louisville, Ky.,
division.
Sports -- Galen Hall has been named head coach and director of XFL football team Orlando Rage. The XFL is a new professional football league owned by NBC and World Wrestling Federation Entertainment. Hall, 59, was the longtime coach of the University of Florida Gators football team and was most recently the head coach of the Rhein Fire football team, part of the National Football League-Europe League.
Technology -- Exigent International, a Melbourne-based technology services company, has named Sally Ball executive vice president and CFO. Ball, 42, served as Exigent's interim CFO since March and has been vice president of finance and controller for the company since 1997. Before Exigent, Ball was controller and contract director at Melbourne-based Harris Corp.'s electronic systems sector. Harris is a communications equipment company.
Transportation -- Stephen Nouss has been tapped as senior vice president and CFO of Fort Lauderdale-based Hvide Marine, a marine support and transportation company. Nouss was most recently vice president of finance and administration at Certified Vacations Group, a Fort Lauderdale-based tour group company. Nouss replaces Walter Zorkers, who left to pursue other interests, the company says.
Utilities -- Joe Richardson is out at North Carolina-based Carolina Power & Light, which bought out St. Petersburg-based Florida Power Corp. earlier this year. Richardson, 51, who was CEO of Florida Power Corp., was the only executive picked to stay on through the merger. He announced in August that he was resigning to "seek a different direction" in his career. At CP&L, Richardson's duties would have been diminished as one of six executives reporting to CEO William Cavanaugh. He will be replaced by William Habermeyer, a retired Navy rear admiral who has been at CP&L since 1993 and is now president of CP&L's western region, based in St. Petersburg.
