Panama City Port provides a $1.4-billion economic boost for the region, state and nation, according to a port-commissioned study. “A lot of the impact comes from manufacturers throughout the region that utilize the port,’’ says Wayne Stubbs, Port Authority executive director. The 2012 numbers:
1,163 — Direct port jobs
$54 million — Direct employee wages
10,863 — Total jobs, including port users, suppliers and consumer businesses
1.4 million tons — Cargo moved
$544 million — Local economic impact
$43 million — State and local taxes generated
