"I got paid to do something that was important to me."
Even as a child Ellen Siler knew her life’s work would somehow help people.
She started out in the Peace Corps in Jamaica in the early 1970s, then worked for YMCAs and the American Red Cross. In Jacksonville in 1990, she began an almost 30-year career helping victims of domestic violence and their families while building a statewide reputation in the field.
She retired Monday after almost 20 years as CEO of Hubbard House, the 116-bed domestic violence center that provides a range of prevention and intervention services for survivors and their families.
