Growth Engine: Navy Federal Credit Union

Amy Martinez | 9/25/2019

Navy Federal Credit Union has grown from a call center to an economic powerhouse. Local business and community leaders say it’s hard to overstate the impact Navy Federal has had on an area that has long depended on the military and tourism as its economic backbone. Aside from the millions of dollars in payroll that flow into the region’s economy, the company has provided young people from the area a reason to stay and pursue careers in Pensacola rather than leave for greener pastures, they say.

“To keep your kid here in town, working for a solid company with a solid future, you can’t put a price on that,” says Escambia County Commissioner Jeff Bergosh.

Gator with missing jaw finds home in Florida park

A Florida reptile park has taken in an alligator that lost its nose and upper jaw to a fight or boat propeller. Gatorland Orlando said over the weekend that the injured alligator came from a lake in nearby Sanford, about 20 miles (32 kilometers) northeast of Orlando. “She had basically no chance of surviving in the wild with such a severe injury,” the park said in a social media post.
