Florida Obamacare enrollment

Florida leads the nation in Obamacare enrollment, and more insurance firms are entering the Florida marketplace. The news isn’t all good, however.

At least 80% of consumers in the state have access to plans from at least three insurance carriers, compared to 67% nationally, according to data from Kaiser. That’s more offerings than the typical menu offered by an employer, says Jodi Ray, director of Florida Covering Kids & Families, a program based at the University of South Florida that helps consumers statewide understand the different plans. She points out that there are 77 plans available to residents of Hillsborough County. “If you have 77 plans to choose from, I don’t know how many more you need,” Ray says.
