The afterlife of a model home

A builder’s model home in a fine neighborhood inevitably gets sold. Professionally furnished to the max, loaded with luxury features well beyond the base price and probably showcased in Parade of Homes events, a handsome model from a well-respected builder can be an easy sale.

That was the case when Zenon Malsona and his wife Ela were visiting the US from Poland and bought a John Cannon model home called the Miah in the West of-the Trail Southside Village area in Sarasota.

The 10-room, 3,280-square-foot, two-story house with a side-facing oversized two-car garage and open-air swimming pool had been on the Parade of Homes tour in 2016 and 2017. Over two years the Miah model accumulated accolades such as Best Kitchen, Best Architecture, Best Pool, Best Floorplan, Best Curb Appeal, Best Master Bedroom and Best Overall Design. After the Parade, Cannon put the house on the market with an 18-month lease-back arrangement in the contract. That suited the Malsona family. They bought the house as vacation property and possible rental income. That home at 1810 Grove Street is now on the market for $1,995,000.
