› JAA board approves lease for Scannell to build $26 million Boeing facility
The Jacksonville Aviation Authority board voted 7-0 on Sept. 26 to lease property to Scannell Properties at Cecil Airport to build a $26 million component repair, maintenance and warehouse facility for The Boeing Co. The JAA board approved a ground lease for 18.3 acres to Scannell, which intends to build a 146,645-square-foot facility with parking, roads, access drives and stormwater control facilities at the West Jacksonville airport.
› North Port City Commission adopts $214.4 million budget for 2022-23 fiscal year
The North Port City Commission approved a $214.4 million budget for the coming year on Sept. 22 on a 4-1 vote. Just as with the first reading of the budget, City Commissioner Debbie McDowell voted no, saying the commission did not have an opportunity to go through the budget line by line in an attempt to cut back expenses and contending that it did not reflect a plan to address potential leaner years in the future.
› Developer to convert Naples hotel to workforce housing
A development company specializing in converting hotel properties into multifamily complexes has bought a Super 8 by Wyndham Hotel in Naples. K2 Developers paid $9.6 million for the 104-room hotel on Tollgate Boulevard off of Collier Boulevard, near the on-ramp to Interstate 75. The company, with offices in Coral Gables and Boulder, Colorado, did not respond to several requests for comments but has publicly acknowledged it was converting the hotel into much needed workforce housing in the area.
› WonderWorks magic dinner show shifts to Halloween theme
WonderWorks Orlando is bringing back the Halloween version of its Outta Control Magic Dinner Show for the month of October. The show — dubbed the Outta Control Spooktacular Magic Dinner Show — features family-friendly comedy, card tricks, predictions, levitating items, audience participation among its spooky magic. Some shows feature a tribute to famed magician Harry Houdini. The dinner includes fresh hand-tossed cheese and pepperoni pizza, salad, beer, wine, soda and a Halloween-themed dessert.
