› A new car dealership was denied by Delray Beach. The developer is hoping the courts will save the project.
A developer spent $10 million on a piece of land in Delray Beach with big plans of opening a brand new car dealership along Federal Highway. Those plans are on life support, though, after the City Commission quashed the proposal in September. Now, the developer is hoping the courts will step in and keep the proposal alive. The developer, ABC JC Auto Imports LLC, has filed a petition for a circuit court to review the decision, claiming its due process rights were violated by the commission.
› Tampa Bay Innovation Center teams up with Duke, PODS to launch climate-focused startup program
The region’s first program focused on climate-centered startups is officially launching. Tampa Bay Innovation Center announced Monday its sixth cohort program will be centered on sustainability-focused companies, ranging from climate tech to clean tech entities. “We’ve had a few sustainability companies in past cohorts, but because we’re in St. Pete, we’ve wanted to focus on this,” said Ken Evans, TBIC’s managing director of accelerators.
› 1928 Cuban Bistro chooses Fernandina Beach for expansion
Owners of 1928 Cuban Bistro intend to open their fifth location in January on Amelia Island in Nassau County. The bistro will lease the former Amelia Island Tea House at 122 S. Eighth St. in Fernandina Beach’s historic district. The 2,292-square-foot space is represented by Amelia Coastal Realty of Fernandina Beach.
› Storm puts off grocer's Cape Coral grand opening
Sprout’s Farmers Market is putting off the grand opening of its new store in Cape Coral scheduled for Friday, Oct. 7. A spokesperson for the chain says in an email that it is being pushed back but did not have details of how long it would be delayed or if the store would open without ceremony. The chain’s website still lists the store as “opening soon.”
