Space Florida could see changes as economic-development programs continue

The House Regulatory Reform & Economic Development Subcommittee on Thursday backed a plan (PCB RRS 23-01) that, in part, would separate the Space Florida Board of Directors from the public-private Enterprise Florida. The bill comes as House Speaker Paul Renner, R-Palm Coast, calls for eliminating Enterprise Florida, with many of its business-recruitment programs placed under the Department of Economic Opportunity. Florida universities still may not enforce Individual Freedom act, appeals court says

A federal appeals court has denied Florida’s request to enforce its controversial Individual Freedom act, also called the Stop Woke act, at colleges and universities while a lawsuit challenging the controversial 2022 law is pending. The ruling from the U.S. 11th Circuit Court of Appeals follows a federal judge’s injunction against enforcement in November, which the state appealed. More from the Tampa Bay Times.

Florida Board of Medicine's ban on transgender treatments for minors takes effect

Florida doctors could lose their medical licenses if they order puberty blockers, hormone therapy or surgery for minors diagnosed with gender dysphoria, under a Florida Board of Medicine rule that took effect Thursday. Opponents of the ban, pushed by Gov. Ron DeSantis’ administration, pledged to file a lawsuit challenging the rule. A Florida Board of Osteopathic Medicine rule with identical prohibitions will take effect March 28. More from the News Service of Florida.

'Reclaiming Home' showcases contemporary Native American art at the Ringling Museum in Sarasota

An exhibition coming to the Ringling Museum in Sarasota, 'Reclaiming Home: Contemporary Seminole Art', showcases the work of Seminole, Miccosukee and mixed-heritage artists from Florida and the Seminole diaspora. Seminoles were one of the five Southeastern nations who were forcibly relocated in the 19th century to present-day Oklahoma and beyond as part of the Indian Removal Act of 1830. More from WUSF.

 Direct flights between Reykjavik and Orlando made traveling between the two countries relatively easy, and the region has a solid talent pipeline for a growing company. There was also a favorable social dynamic. “There’s a big Icelandic community here, so moving here with the family (three kids) and just settling in was way easier in Orlando compared to any other city in the states. That also played a part in the decision,” says Sigurdur “Siggi” Svansson, CEO and co-founder of Iceland-based digital marketing agency Sahara.
