Tallahassee, FL – Florida moms can expect a thoughtful Mother's Day this year as shoppers plan to spend even more on gifts and celebrations. According to a survey released by the National Retail Federation, shoppers plan to spend $274.02 per person, the highest figure on record. The majority of consumers (84%) plan to celebrate the special holiday this month.

"Shoppers are looking forward to showering mom with love this Mother's Day," said Scott Shalley, president and CEO of the Florida Retail Federation. “Our Florida retailers are stocked and ready to help with all your gift or celebratory needs. Whether you are purchasing flowers or planning a special outing, remember to 'Find it in Florida' and support your local retailers!"

According to the National Retail Federation (NRF), shoppers plan to spend $35.7 billion on Mother's Day.  That is an increase of nearly $4 billion over the previous year.

Flowers and greeting cards remain the top two purchases for this Mother's Day, according to the survey, with 74% of shoppers planning to purchase in each of those categories. More than half of shoppers (60%) are planning a special outing to dinner or brunch to celebrate their mothers.

Consumers are prioritizing a thoughtful and memorable Mother's Day, with 47% of shoppers looking to purchase a gift that is unique or different. Some shoppers (42%) are looking to create a special memory this holiday.

Thirty-four percent of shoppers will search for their holiday purchases online or in department stores this year, while others will shop at specialty stores (30%), local and small businesses (24%), or discount stores (23%).

The Florida Retail Federation encourages shoppers to "Find It In Florida" and shop at local retailers this Spring. Supporting Florida retailers helps boost the local economy and support jobs in the community. Learn more about the "Find It In Florida" program at the website
