    Florida officials track effects of new laws on state revenues

    Florida officials have examined several bills signed into law by Gov. Ron DeSantis to determine how they'll affect the state's revenues. Officials analyzed several bills during a revenue estimating conference that are tied to House Bill 5001, the state's fiscal 2024-2025 budget, and HB 5003, which is the measure that implements it.     National real estate firm plants flag in Orlando

    A national commercial real estate firm is continuing its expansion into Florida with a new office in an iconic downtown Orlando building. Dallas-based Stream Realty Partners announced the opening of its latest office in the former SunTrust building, now The Exchange. "We're very bullish on Orlando," said Stream executive managing director for Florida Greg Katz, calling the city "fast-growing, dynamic, the center of the [Florida] stage."     Apalachicola Riverkeeper challenges DEP plan to permit oil drilling in North Florida

    The Apalachicola Riverkeeper is mounting a legal challenge to try to stop the latest effort to drill for oil in environmentally sensitive North Florida. The nonprofit Riverkeeper filed a petition Thursday seeking to block the Florida Department of Environmental Protection from permitting an exploratory oil well in rural Calhoun County.     Red Lobster closing: 24 more Florida locations could shut down. Here's where

    Just abruptly closing nearly 100 Red Lobster locations around the country last month, including at least 17 in Florida, wasn't enough to stem the company's financial woes. Cheddar bay biscuits may become even harder to find. In the bankruptcy documents filed last week, Red Lobster's owner listed 228 rejected leases the company said would keep losing money.     Tampa’s old Arturo Fuente Cigar Co. building to be restored, get a new life

    The Vicente Nieto and Bros. Cigar Factory turns 100 next year. But if Liana Fuente has her way, the building at 2708 N 18th St. won’t look a day over 70. A year ago, Fuente purchased the factory and is now working toward restoring the 7,000-square-foot structure while adopting it for modern use. When completed, likely by next year, the first floor will be retail — a bar, a florist and event space, all women owned, Fuente said. The second floor will feature five apartments.     Restaurateurs have a school of businesses on the hook

    To say restaurateurs Nathan Stuart and Margo Klar have a full plate is an understatement. The spouses have several restaurants. More are on the way. They own the Fish House & Oyster Co. restaurants in Orange Park, New Berlin in Jacksonville, Julington Creek and St. Augustine. They have the Tally Fish House & Oyster Bar in Tallahassee. On May 6 they opened The Boathouse at in Ponte Vedra Beach.
