“It doesn’t have anything to do with the dealership. It’s just about me and my wife trying to give back to a community that’s been good to us,” Case says.
The Rick Case Bikes for Kids program is in its 28th year. The event has donated more than 100,000 bikes in south Florida, Cleveland and Atlanta, where Case has dealerships. Local charities, including the Boys & Girls Clubs of Broward County, distribute the bikes.
Case sits on the board of the Boys & Girls Clubs and each year comes up with the fund-raising events, overseeing every aspect from entertainment to guest list. The Rendezvous, a three-day fund-raising event featuring superyachts, just celebrated its 22nd year. Next year, Case brings back for its fourth year the Concours d’Elegance, a three-day antique and classic car show modeled after the famous upscale event held each year in Pebble Beach. The proceeds from these events go to the Boys & Girls Clubs. The Rendezvous alone has netted $2 million to $5 million for the past couple of years. The Concours raised more than $1 million this year.
Case recognizes the tough economic climate will make fund raising harder. “It’s been tough. We’ve lost of lot of our big contributors whose net worth has been cut in half.” But, he adds, “We just really care about helping kids. That’s our future.”
