Venture Deal Brings Cash to Longwood Brokerage

Longwood-based Jesup & Lamont Inc., a global investment company, has received a $2 million cash infusion by forming a venture with Legent Clearing of Omaha, Neb., the companies said Tuesday.

Jesup & Lamont's brokerage and investment banking unit signed a multiyear deal to use Legent's trade clearing system as its primary vehicle for clearing investment transactions, officials said.

Jesup & Lamont Securities will, in turn, provide Legent and its clients with fixed-income research and global trade execution services, according to the agreement.

Officials said the deal provides the $2 million infusion to Jesup & Lamont, which has absorbed big losses amid the historic plunge in global investment markets during the past year.
