Born in Manhattan and raised in rural New York, Emerich and his wife of 52 years spend springs and summers in Blue Ridge, Georgia — about 90 miles from their children and four grandchildren in Atlanta. At 76, Emerich also regularly runs 5Ks.

What advice would you give to a lawyer coming up on reaching the pinnacle?
The secret to life is to put somebody else before yourself. Even if you’re unappreciated, that doesn’t matter. Just follow the golden rule, you’re going to be OK.
