Ask around, and you’ll get plenty of explanations for why Florida’s two baseball teams – the Tampa Bay Rays and the Miami Marlins – can’t draw fans to home games. But perhaps the best explanation is from a 14th-century philosopher monk named William of Ockham. His “Ockham’s Razor” principle states that amid a host of explanations for some phenomenon, the simplest one was most often correct — maybe our teams lack fans simploy because people would just rather spend their money on something other than baseball.
