Former UCF nursing students research improving COVID-19 patients oxygen levels

The pandemic has highlighted the research of two former UCF nursing students on prone-positioning — turning patients on their abdomens to improve oxygen levels when they can’t breathe well. Their findings have become especially relevant amid the pandemic, as hospitals turn increasingly to the once relatively uncommon maneuver to improve oxygenation levels of seriously ill patients and keep them off of ventilators. “What’s been incredible about this, is we’ve been able to pull that (research) out and refer both of them as experts in their areas to outside people,” says Mary Lou Sole, dean of UCF’s College of Nursing.
