Bring on the New Year

As we head into 2021, we are faced with yet another year of uncertainty — and not just related to COVID-19. What will a new administration in Washington mean to us? What effect will new policies and measures have on our businesses and personal lives? Will the country continue to be divided? Will Congress work together to provide the leadership the country needs? All important questions as we head into a year where we hope our lives will return to normal.

As a country, we have persevered through many difficult times. I have no doubt that the strength and resolve of the American spirit will once again prevail and our country and our economy will continue to grow.

Speaking of the economy, this month’s Florida Trend features an economic outlook for the year ahead. Our editorial team talked with business leaders from across the state in many different sectors. Read what they had to say about the impact of the pandemic and what they see for 2021.

This issue also examines the impact that Florida’s veteran community has on the state. Writer Amy Keller looks at what Florida is doing to stay ahead of other states in continuing to attract and assist this ever-important segment of our population.

In our Economic Backbone feature, Florida Trend’s editorial team looks at Florida’s cancer care community, identifying advances that have been made in testing, research, therapeutics that are seeing strong results and the continued construction and development that is happening at the state’s centers for cancer research.

The section also includes our annual listing of the top cancer treatment centers throughout Florida. The cancer research happening throughout our state is not only impressive but provides much needed hope for the fight against this devastating disease.

Our custom content feature highlights the Orlando region, spotlighting health care, education, real estate, technology and other vital sectors. We also recognize the area’s corridors of growth, identifying communities that have continued to expand — even during the COVID-19 pandemic. The feature provides a terrific glimpse into the growth that is happening in the Orlando region.

Even with all the unknowns that are in front of us in the year ahead, I am confident it will be a year of growth, prosperity and economic recovery. We look forward to celebrating many successes with you in the new year.
