For many of us, business activity never slowed during the pandemic. It just forced us to pivot from some of our traditional business ways.
During the past year and a half, we had to decide what was best for our companies and our employees: Working remotely, in office or some combination. Now, as we move beyond the pandemic and back to “normal” business conditions, we again face numerous questions: If employees were able to manage their job responsibilities successfully working remotely, should they be allowed to continue working from home? If fewer employees are required to work in the office, do we need to downsize our physical space? Do we need new policies regarding work equipment, workflow, etc.?
As the pandemic challenged many businesses, it also allowed us to reassess our procedures. Efficiencies and new workflow management systems were discovered, mostly out of necessity. Here at Florida Trend, I prefer to have our local staff in the office, where they can collaborate and frequently meet with executives during editorial roundtables. Those face-to-face interactions between Florida’s leaders and our staff are important.
On the other hand, being a statewide media company, it’s also important that we allow some employees to work remotely, allowing them to immerse themselves in various regions of the state that they cover.
I’m happy to say that as our employees return to the office, they will find an even more welcoming environment as we have relocated to new space within our office building.
I’m confident that the new surroundings will boost the level of excitement, enthusiasm and energy.

I am excited about the remainder of 2021 and am looking forward to business continuing to move ahead and returning to more normal conditions.
