Best Wishes to a Friend...

I have had the pleasure of working with many smart, talented and dedicated editors throughout my nearly 25 years in publishing. An editor is truly the heartbeat of the organization, setting the tone, direction and editorial integrity of the products being produced.

FLORIDA TREND’S editorial leader, Mark Howard, is one of the finest editors and most decent human beings that I’ve encountered in my career. During my tenure at Florida Trend, I have been honored to call Mark a colleague, a business partner and — best of all — a friend. He is admired by his peers, respected for his advice and critical thinking by Florida’s business community and appreciated, valued and treasured by the whole staff at FLORIDA TREND.

After 26 years at Trend, Mark has decided it’s time to step up his golf game, hone his guitar skills and maybe even write a play. He’s retiring. As excited as we are for Mark personally, we will all miss him dearly.

Thankfully, we have a few more months to enjoy his companionship and jovial nature. He will be around through the first quarter of 2022.

During his final months, Mark will help me narrow down the list of candidates for his replacement until we find someone to fill his giant shoes. And he intends to stay on as long as necessary to ensure a smooth transition.

Mark’s successes over the past nearly 30 years are too numerous to mention individually — hundreds of awards won by the edit team speak volumes about his leadership. He’s built a highly respected and admired team of reporters and editors and has helped oversee the launch of numerous new editorial products that have helped position Florida Trend as a leader nationwide.

Mark’s contributions to the magazine and the company will be felt long after he retires. And for that, I am very proud and appreciative.

Knowing Mark as well as I do, he will make the most of his retirement — exploring the state’s historical sites, kayaking our beautiful waterways and biking the many trails crossing the state, in addition to golfing, strumming and writing.

Please help me wish Mark all the best as he plans for this next exciting stage in his life. If you would like to send Mark personal well wishes, please feel free to do so by e-mailing him at mhoward@FloridaTrend.com. I know that he will enjoy hearing from you.
