Just in Time Tech Boost
The company behind a project formerly known only as Confidential Project Xray is global IT management and security software giant Kaseya, which is expanding its Miami global headquarters and pledges to create 3,400 jobs paying an average of $107,000.
“With tech layoffs recently impacting thousands of people and their organizations across the U.S., our longstanding partnership with Kaseya to bolster job creation has never been more important,” said Miami-Dade Beacon Council President and CEO Rodrick Miller in unveiling the project.
Kaseya is investing more than $16 million, with Miami-Dade County contributing nearly $4.6 million.
Kaseya’s expansion in the Brickell financial district will grow its workforce to approximately 4,000, making it a leading employer in Miami-Dade. Kaseya has offices in the United States, Canada, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, India and Singapore. Kaseya also is hiring at its new Orlando offices.
- IT company LeverX is relocating its headquarters from Silicon Valley to Miami. LeverX, with 14 offices in 10 countries, provides consulting, development and implementation services. Vancouver-based Fortuna is opening an office in Miami Beach. The venture capital firm says it plans to invest in companies and entrepreneurs in clean tech, space-related ventures and emerging industries.
- Miami-based Kiwibot, builder of zero-emission delivery robots, entered a $10-million financing partnership with Kineo Finance to ramp up manufacturing of its AI-powered robots. The robots deliver food on campuses around the nation and in 41 cities worldwide.
- Website-building company Wix is laying off 370 employees, including 142 in Miami Beach.
- Global financial firm Rothschild & Co. will occupy 5,000 square feet at 830 Brickell in Miami. Other tenants include Microsoft, Citadel, multiple international law firms, New York-based insurance firm A-CAP, private equity firm Thoma Bravo, CI Financial, Marsh Insurance and AerCap. The building is expected to be complete this year.
- Sidley Austin, a global law firm with nearly $3 billion in revenue, recently opened its first Miami office with more than 40 attorneys. The firm plans to lease 60,000 square feet at 830 Brickell.
- The Greater Miami Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Miami Marlins will host 2023 State of the Travel and Tourism Industry events on May 11 at the Marlins’ LoanDepot Park. Registration fees are pledged to hunger relief nonprofit Farm Share.
- President Joe Biden tapped Miami business leader and former Congressman Patrick Murphy to serve on the President’s Export Council, which advises the White House on U.S. trade policies. Murphy is chief investment officer of Coastal Construction Group and is founder and CEO of Togal.AI, which automates the estimating process in construction.
- Terreno Realty of Bellevue, Wash., plans to buy 121 acres at Countyline Corporate Park in northwest Hialeah, near I-75 and Florida’s Turnpike. The company plans 10 LEED-certified, industrial distribution buildings. Total cost will be $491 million.
- Miami-based Terra and AB Asset Management secured a $43.2-million loan for the Residences in the Grove, a condo set to rise one block from Biscayne Bay. Completion is scheduled for 2025.
- Pacific & Orient Properties broke ground on a 21-story condo project on the Intracoastal Waterway, the first groundbreaking in North Bay Village in 10 years. It is designed to showcase the simplicity of Japanese living.
- Onda Residences, a bayfront condo project along Biscayne Bay, has topped off construction at eight stories, with 85% of its 41 units already sold. Remaining units start at $5 million.
- Early-learning advocate Vance Aloupis, former state legislator and former CEO of the Children’s Movement, has joined Strategos Group as a partner, establishing a Miami office of the Tampa-based education, health care and technology consulting firm.
- To help Miami- Dade students cope with crises such as the pandemic and school shootings, the U.S. Department of Education awarded Florida International University $6 million to recruit and train more than 100 school mental health service providers.
- ANF Group, a construction firm, broke ground on Sol Vista, a 227-unit affordable senior community in Cutler Bay. Co-developers MRK Partners and Cypress Equity Investments partnered with the Housing Finance Authority of Miami-Dade County, the Florida Housing Finance Corp., R4 Capital and R4 Capital Funding. Completion is set for 2024.
- Mast Capital, a real estate development and investment firm, and Angelo Gordon have sold Seascape Pointe in Homestead to IMC Equity Group. Seascape Pointe is a garden-style community with 54 buildings on 32 acres in Homestead.
- Quest Workspaces, billed as the nation’s largest shared workspace brand owned by women, opened a new location in One Biscayne Tower in downtown Miami. It has 13 locations in Florida and New York.
