$12-Million Worth of Green

When Palm Beach County’s Romano Law Group started running short of office space, senior partner John Romano decided against adding on or moving to an existing, bigger building. Rather, he wanted an entirely new space, and he wanted it to be green. The result is the firm’s $12-million “EcoCentre, the Living Building,” a 33,000-sq.-ft. building opening this year in downtown Lake Worth. The project, which is seeking LEED certification, will include a water purification system and a “living roof,” covered in plants and trees, that will capture storm water and funnel it to an 8,000-gallon cistern below. The stored water will used to flush toilets.
