› Fort Myers airport: March was busiest month ever
In an era of airport passenger traffic records made and then quickly broken, Southwest Florida International Airport in Fort Myers is the latest to score a new mark: The 1,514,046 passengers who traveled through the airport in March set an all-time monthly record for the airport, under the call letters RSW. The 1.51 million-passenger tally was up 30% over March 2021, according to a statement.

› How you can help shorebirds during nesting season in Florida
With shorebird and seabird nesting season underway, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission thanks building owners for hosting species such as black skimmers, least terns, roseate terns and American oystercatchers that nest on their roofs from March through August. Shorebirds and seabirds typically nest directly on beaches along Florida’s coasts, however, as our shorelines become more crowded with people, less nesting space is available and birds increasingly use gravel rooftops to nest and raise chicks.

› 4Roots lands $2.47 million from tax credit deal to build Orlando Packing District farm
A deal involving a federal tax credit program has landed restaurateur John Rivers’ nonprofit 4Roots $2.47 million to help build an educational farm in Orlando’s Packing District development. The first phase of the 18-acre farm off John Young Parkway includes a hydroponic greenhouse, field gardens, an apiary, an iconic red barn for equipment, and two classrooms. Some features are expected to be completed as soon as November and December and others will be finished in January or February, said 4Roots CFO Jim Bruce.

› Miami’s climate resilience team yields to the young
A parade of youth activists helped persuade Miami commissioners to add young voting members to the city’s Climate Resilience Committee. At its last meeting the commission first OK’d the change. Second and final reading is expected May 12. With the change, two of the nine appointed members must be in the 18 to 25 age range.
