› Key Senate race heats up in North Florida
Stakes are high in a North Florida contest between a scion of a prominent Democratic political family and a former football star who is a “huge fan” of Gov. Ron DeSantis, in one of the state Senate’s most closely watched races this year. Incumbent Sen. Loranne Ausley, a Tallahassee Democrat, is trying to fight off a challenge from Republican Corey Simon, a political newcomer who gained fame playing football for Florida State University before turning pro.
› Clearwater office portfolio sells for $18 million
A five-building office portfolio in Pinellas County has sold to a Tampa private equity investor. The portfolio at Rio Vista Drive, north of St. Pete-Clearwater Airport and near Roosevelt Boulevard, includes five flex office buildings totaling 135,221 square feet. Tenants, according to Cushman & Wakefield, which represented the seller, a joint venture between Genet Property Group and Biscayne Atlantic, are in the technology, legal, engineering and research fields. The portfolio was 94% leased at the time of sale.
› Barancik Foundation and WUSF Public Media partner to vastly expand news coverage along Gulf Coast
Charles & Margery Barancik Foundation and WUSF Public Media today announced the launch of a journalism collaboration that will substantially expand coverage of news in Sarasota, Manatee and DeSoto counties. Entitled the Community News Collaborative (CNC), the project launches today through a donation of nearly $600,000 from Barancik Foundation to finance the hiring of an editor and four multimedia reporters who will create print, video, and audio content for syndication to more than a dozen news outlets across the Gulf Coast.
