Citizens Insurance up to 1.055 million policies
The state-backed Citizens Property Insurance Corp. added about 8,000 policies last week, bringing its total to 1,055,366 as of Friday, according to newly posted data.
The additional policies continued massive growth at Citizens, which was created as an insurer of last resort.
Homeowners have poured into Citizens as private insurers have dropped policies amid financial losses.
Five Florida property insurers have been deemed insolvent and placed into receivership since February.
As an illustration of recent trends, Citizens had about 1.047 million policies on Sept. 9 and 1.03 million on Sept. 2.
Citizens has seen its policy count more than double during the past two years.
As of Sept. 30, 2020, for example, it had 511,055 policies.
On Sept. 30, 2021, it had 708,919 policies, according to data posted on its website.
