› Man accused of hijacking Sarasota business countersues company he allegedly stole
The man accused in a lawsuit of hijacking a Sarasota real estate business, then mortgaging its properties for $1.3 million has countersued the company he's accused of stealing, and has also been sued again, according to Sarasota County court files. Robert Houston, a Parrish resident, claims he is owed more than $30,000 after seizing 21 Sarasota properties and paying the late property taxes and code enforcement fines, as well as taking out insurance policies and claiming to do repair work on them.

› Construction plans along U.S. 19 raise concerns from Pinellas business owners
Coming with a $242.6 million price tag, plans for new interchanges and roadway improvements along U.S. Highway 19 are drawing concerns from business owners between State Road 580 and County Road 95 in Clearwater and Palm Harbor. According to the Florida Department of Transportation, the project will transform the existing six-lane divided highway into a six-lane controlled access roadway with one-way frontage roads in both directions.

› Ponte Vedra pharma startup files for IPO
A Ponte Vedra Beach-based biopharmaceutical startup company developing treatments for cardiorenal diseases is planning a modest initial public offering. Cadrenal Therapeutics Inc. filed a registration statement with the Securities and Exchange Commission to sell 2 million shares of stock at $5 each. According to the filing, Cadrenal was formed in January and in April acquired the rights to a drug under development called tecarfarin.

› Tiny homes or recreational vehicles? City of Alachua business shut down over possible violations
A local business that rents tiny homes on wheels was ordered last week by the city of Alachua to cease all operations and have the structures removed. Govinda Carol and Krsna Balynas, owners of Simplify Further, said they were given a notice of building code violations on Oct. 12 by Tim Hunt, a building official with the city of Alachua, who also was accompanied by a police officer and a representative from the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation.
