› With most of Pensacola's Black-owned media gone, these 2 stations give 'voice to the people'
Radio man Robert Hill came from Montgomery to Pensacola and started his radio station WRNE-AM 980 in December 1990 with one goal in mind. "To find a buyer and move on," Hill said. "But I remember Eugene Brown (former longtime director of the Escambia-Pensacola Human Relations Commission) said I would never get out of town." Now, 33 years later and still at the radio control board, what is the goal? "To find a buyer and move on," Hill said.

› 25 cultural entitles again in line for Brevard grants, reigniting Pridefest controversy
The County Commission this week voted 3-2 to restore $530,000 to the tourism cultural grants program for the 2023-24 budget year that began Oct. 1. And, based on county officials' interpretation of the vote, that means the 25 groups will be getting their money, without having to apply for it again and without the need for another County Commission vote. That is, unless commissioners change their minds again.

› How 2 Tampa Bay county pet shelters bucked national spike in euthanasia
Animal shelters across the country are overrun with a flood of surrendered pets this year, leading to a spike in euthanasia rates — but not in Tampa Bay. A sea change in the animal control systems in Hillsborough and Pinellas counties has doubled the rate of pets who leave the shelters alive in the last decade. They did it through a combination of owner education and an investment in resources like food banks and low-cost medical care.

› Officials detail plans for major land swap between New College and SRQ airport
A major land swap is in the works to avert a financial nightmare for New College of Florida that awaits at the end of a 100-year land lease agreement with the Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport. A new deal could be finalized within the next 90 days. If the lease is allowed to expire in 2056, the airport-owned land and all of the New College buildings on it revert to airport ownership.
