Florida farmworkers seek help on heat protection from food industry

Seeking relief from Florida’s soaring heat, outdoor workers appealed to politicians in Miami-Dade and Tallahassee for help. They got none. Now, a coalition of farmworkers from South-Dade and Immokalee intend to take their campaign directly to the powerful fast food and grocery industries that buy the produce they harvest. Miami-based Rap Snacks connects hip-hop stars to fans one bag at a time 

The idea for Rap Snacks was an expansion of a concept started in 1994. Now based in downtown Miami, the company is celebrating its 30th anniversary. Since its inception, Rap Snacks has made more than $50 million in revenue, according to company representatives. More from the Miami Herald.

Orlando residents among the most financially distressed in the U.S., study finds

Metro Orlando's economy continues to benefit from larger trends felt across Florida, from the Sunshine State's robust inbound migration to its low unemployment that bests the national average. Challenges persist, though, with a new report from WalletHub ranking the market among the most financially distressed cities in the nation. Orlando ranked 28th, falling within the upper third of cities with the most financial distress, just ahead of Detroit and right behind Sacramento, California. More from the Orlando Business Journal.

State agrees to purchase and preserve entire Creek Ranch property in Northeast Polk

A crucial segment of the Florida Wildlife Corridor is on the verge of being spared from potential development. The owners of Creek Ranch in northeast Polk County have reached an agreement with state officials to sell the 1,342-acre property for conservation through the Florida Forever program. Bob Adams, a co-owner of the parcel on the west side of Lake Hatchineha, confirmed the deal. More from the Lakeland Ledger.

Mystery 'space experience' major attraction planned at Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex

An undisclosed major tourist attraction is in the works at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex, permitting records show. Officials at the KSC Visitor Complex declined to divulge details, saying announcements will occur in the near future. But a NASA draft environmental assessment reveals the mystery attraction will occupy 4.1 acres and reach up to nine stories tall just south of the space shuttle Atlantis building.
