Florida rivals ask courts to stop online sports gambling off tribal lands

The state of Florida and the Seminole Tribe of Florida will be raking in hundreds of millions of dollars from online sports betting this decade, thanks to a compact between the tribe and Gov. Ron DeSantis that gave the tribe exclusive rights to run sports wagers as well as casino gambling on its reservations. But are these online wagers on the outcome of sporting events legally on tribal land, when really only the computer servers are located there, accepting bets made using mobile phones and computers from anywhere in Florida?  More from the AP.

Florida gas prices drop after last week's spike

Florida gasoline prices are beginning to drop after a 15-cent spike last week, AAA-The Auto Club Group reports. By Sunday, the state average went back down to $3.43 from $3.46 — the highest average of 2024. AAA-The Auto Club Group spokesperson Mark Jenkins said the high pump prices were due to a switch to summer fuel, which is more costly. More from the Tallahassee Democrat and Florida Politics.

After 52 years, Pensacola DIB works to sell itself to downtown property owners

As residences have slowly become the majority of properties in the Downtown Improvement Board district, its board is facing pressure to justify its existence from property owners unhappy with the organization. That's why officials have spent a lot of time planning how to address that growth. More from the Orlando Business Journal.

Tampa’s St. Patrick’s Day parade moves downtown, leaving Ybor

Tampa will once again dye the Hillsborough River emerald green for St. Patrick’s Day, and this year will add the Tampa Rough Riders parade, a tradition that for nearly 30 years has been held in Ybor City as an uproarious night parade. Rick Ceglio, chairperson of the Rough Riders’ St. Patrick’s Day activities, said he has been trying for years to move the parade from Ybor to tie it with the downtown celebration, “to make Tampa a destination event for St. Patrick’s Day.” More from the Tampa Bay Times.

New movement on bringing ‘Stadium of the Future’ to Jacksonville

Negotiations between the Jaguars and the city are still going on for the “Stadium of the Future” project, which is expected to cost more than $1 billion. But the project has taken another step forward. Adapting anchors

Commercial designer Michele “Mik” Oca sees the repurposing of anchor stores into entertainment centers as a “win-win” for the amusement facilities and struggling malls. “The entertainment facility is getting people that already know the shopping mall,” he says. “And the shopping mall is getting new people that probably never (go to malls), just because they want to go to the entertainment facility."
