› Palm Beach Town Council awards $30 million contract for Phipps Ocean Park construction
The long-planned redevelopment of historic Phipps Ocean Park will get underway this summer after Palm Beach approved a $30 million contract for construction-related services. Council members voted 4-1 on March 12 to award the contract to Burkhardt Construction Inc. for services related to the park's overhaul. That authorization is contingent on the approval of the Phipps Ocean Park Capital Gifts and Operating Agreement, which is expected to be presented next month.

› Pinellas schools prepare for major leadership shift as retirements near
The Pinellas County school district is preparing for a generational change in leadership. In the coming months, the district’s chief finance officer, academic officer, minority achievement officer and athletic director will retire, taking with them 131 years of collective experience.

› Osceola mulls raising SunRail fares as state shifts cost of system to counties
Higher fares could be coming to SunRail riders in Osceola as county commissioners discuss how to cover funding for their portion of the system before year-end. The funding of SunRail transitions from the Florida Department of Transportation to local government partners starting in December. Osceola County commissioners are bouncing around ideas to cover the $12.2 million needed for the three stations in the county.

› The University of Florida's plans in Jacksonville: Where they stand
Jacksonville is poised to become the home of two new University of Florida institutions that would play into UF President Ben Sasse’s vision of the university partnering with businesses to apply research to current and future challenges, putting students closer to prospective employers and spurring the regional and state economies.
